Namitha sizzles again

After the Jaganmohini debacle, Namitha is badly in need of a hit to salvage her position as the ‘oomph queen’ of south cinema. Newer sirens like Mumaith Khan and Rachna Maurya are breathing down her neck. But Namitha has not given up, as her first Malayalam film Black Stallion, directed by commercial filmmakers Pramod and Pappan gets ready for release. Her role in the film, for which she is reported to have been paid her highest salary is also said to be her most glamorous till date. The producers of the film after seeing the first copy have chosen to get it dubbed in Tamil as Nil Gavani Ennai Kadhali and in Telugu as Iddaru Monagallu. The trade is going ga-ga over the stills from the movie in which Namitha is said to have exposed the maximum so far in her career. Her pictures in the film have become one of the hottest downloads on the Internet. Namitha is sure to set the temperature soaring in Black Stallion as she is shown stepping into a swimming pool. Though she doesn’t don a bikini she wears a see through white top and has also done some hot bedroom scenes with Tamil actor Bala who has now become popular in Malayalam. The movie has Kalabhavan Mani Bala and Namitha in the lead. The wafer thin storyline of the film has Namitha playing a bar dancer named Laura who is on the run from the villain a cop played by Kalabhavan Mani. Kanchi priest surrenders

The priest, wanted by the police for allegedly indulging in sex with women inside the sanctum sanctorum of a temple in Kancheepuram, surrendered in a court on Monday. Devanathan (35), priest of Maheswarar temple located near Kancheepuram bus stand, surrendered in a judicial magistrate court in Kancheepuram after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the Madras high court last week. He was remanded to 15 days judicial custody and later lodged in Kancheepuram sub-jail. For many days the police had been on the lookout for Devanathan who allegedly indulged in sexual acts inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, where he was performing daily poojas. The police had registered a case against the priest, father of two girls, based on a complaint from a media person. We have evidence showing him in the act inside the temple's sanctum sanctorum. A case under non-bailable Section 506/2 was registered against him, the Siva Kanchi police said.

So a day after he returned to Chennai, he went to Hyderabad wanting to donate an amount to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. We hear that the big-hearted Vikram donated Rs 15 lakhs the highest amount donated by a Kollywood star for the victims of flood in Andhra Pradesh. Well, that’s quite a gesture from namma Chiyaan. Way to go!

'There's only one Tendulkar'

Muralitharan says

"I read in the newspapers somewhere recently that a boy in Mumbai scored 400odd runs. The papers said he's going to be the next Sachin. How can anyone say that?" an incredulous Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan asks as the Indian master batsman completed 20 years of international cricket on Sunday. "There will never be another Sachin," Muralitharan says, paying tribute to the champion batsman with whom he has played against a lot of times during their long international career. The world's highest wicket-taker said you get to see one Tendulkar in a life time. "In the next hundred years you will not witness another Tendulkar. He is once in a century player," he said. "He can make runs even when he is 44 years old because his technique is so good. It is this combination of technique and temperament that has made Tendulkar such a great cricketer," he said. Muralitharan said he doesn't have anything new to say about the master-blaster and for him it has been a privilege just to play against him. "What can I say that has never been said about him before? It's a privilege for those who have played during his (Sachin's) time and so got associated with him. Personally, for me, bowling to him has been a privilege," Muralitharan said. The Sri Lankan vice captain described Tendulkar and former West Indies skipper Brain Lara as legends of the game but considered the little master as the special one. "Sachin is more special than anybody else," he said. "I just don't understand it when you all (pointing fingers at the media) describe just about anybody as the next Sachin. There'll never be another!" he added. Asked about his favourite Tendulkar innings, the offspinner struggled to pinpoint one and said it is always a pleasure to watch the master batsman

Sachin the greatest, says Gavaskar

Sachin Tendulkar has managed an achievement beyond compare by completing 20 years in international cricket, feels Sunil Gavaskar, who considers the veteran right-hander the greatest batsman that the game has seen. "I think, apart from Sir Garfield Sobers nobody else has played 20 years in international cricket and 20 years playing at the very highest level and to the very highest standard is an achievement beyond compare," Gavaskar said of the 36-year-old, who completed his two decades in international cricket on Sunday. "No place can be too high for this young man and he is young because as far as his enthusiasm for the game is concerned, he is almost childlike. That is what is keeping him going on and on," he told CNN-IBN. Gavaskar said he started understanding cricket only post 1960 and is yet to see a batsman as complete as Tendulkar. "Since 1960, from when I started to understand a little bit of cricket, he has been the greatest batsman that the game has seen," he said. Gavaskar also pointed out that he likes to set challenges for the Little Master.

And you can’t help but wonder if the politeness was due to the fact that she’s playing a nanny in Cooking With Stella. Well, I’ve always been polite with my domestic help. But yes, the film did change my perception says the dusky beauty. I recently went for a party to my friend’s place and a teenage boy was serving us. I was so disgusted I almost walked out! she states. The actress says she had her maid on her mind when she was approached for the role. I sort of copied her when it came to the dressing style, the clothes, the no make-up look and the short nails she says. The film, co-written by siblings Deepa Mehta and Dilip Mehta and directed by Dilip also stars Lisa Ray, Seema Biswas and Don McKellar. It’s a cute film about human relationships says Shriya adding that she had a great time working with her co-stars. And that’s the reason she gets a tad miffed when we suggest she could have had a problem with the other actors specially Lisa and Seema being promoted more for the film. There are just four of us in the film. Where’s the chance of one or two being promoted more than the others? she asks During workshops all of us bonded like family. Shriya has reason to be happy after all as her film was received with a lot of enthusiasm at the Toronto Film Festival recently. We got a standing ovation for the film and even the critics loved it says Shriya who’s currently busy with Kutty and Chikku Bukku in Tamil.
